Johnson caught on hot mic with Vance ripping Biden ahead of Trump speech

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Vice President JD Vance were caught on a hot mic speaking ahead of President Donald Trump’s address to Congress, with Johnson contrasting Trump with former President Joe Biden.

Vance and Johnson stood behind Trump during Tuesday night’s speech in the House chamber, as is customary for the vice president and House speaker.

“By the way, I think the speech is going to be great … but I don’t know how you do this for 90 minutes,” Vance told Johnson ahead of the speech.

“The hardest thing was doing it during Biden, when the speech was a stupid campaign speech,” Johnson replied, tilting down the microphone capturing their conversation.

JD VANCE: By the way, I think the speech is going to be great… but I don’t know how you do this for 90 minutes.

MIKE JOHNSON: The hardest thing was doing it during Biden, when the speech was a stupid campaign speech.

WHAT IS DOGE? WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY

Biden’s State of the Union address last year was criticized by many as being a campaign speech instead of focusing on his presidency.

Johnson was speaker of the House when Biden gave his final address to Congress last year. Vance was in his second year as a senator.
