Colorado House Republicans elect new leadership for 2025 session
Colorado House Republicans elected their leadership team for the 2025 legislative session on Friday.
Rep. Rose Pugliese of Colorado Springs and Rep. Ty Winter of Trinidad will continue serving as minority leader and assistant minority leader, respectively.
“I am deeply honored by the trust our caucus members have placed in me,” said Pugliese. “I traveled the state multiple times to support our House candidates, walking neighborhoods and making calls on their behalf, while overseeing the largest investment in targeted House races of any Republican House Minority Leader.”
Rep. Ryan Armagost of Berthoud will also continue in his role as caucus whip, while Rep. Anthony Hartsook of Parker will replace Rep. Mary Bradfield as the caucus chair.
“I am honored to have the trust of my colleagues as we continue to strengthen our voice in the Capitol,” Hartsook said. “My goal is to build a united caucus that not only serves the people of Colorado but also collaborates effectively with the business community to drive innovation and economic growth.”
Rep. Rick Taggart of Grand Junction will once again serve on the Joint Budget Committee.
The House Republicans welcomed seven new members following Tuesday’s election: Representatives-elect Jarvis Caldwell of Colorado Springs, Max Brooks of Castle Rock, Carlos Barron of Fort Lupton, Chris Richardson of Elizabeth, Larry Don Suckla of Cortez, Dusty Johnson of Fort Morgan, and Lori Garcia Sander of Eaton. An eighth potential newcomer, Ryan Gonzalez of Fort Lupton, is currently leading incumbent Democratic Rep. Mary Young, D-Greeley, as of Thursday evening, but the race remains too close to call.
Caldwell is replacing Rep. Don Wilson of Monument, who decided to run for El Paso Board of County Commissioners but lost his election. Brooks replaces Rep. Lisa Frizell of Castle Rock, who was elected to the State Senate on Tuesday. Barron fills the former seat of Rep. Gabe Evans, who ran for Congressional District 8; Suckla replaces Rep. Marc Catlin, who recently won his bid for State Senate; Johnson replaces Rep. Richard Holtorf of Akron, who ran an unsuccessful campaign for the 4th Congressional District; and, Garcia Sander takes the place of Rep. Mike Lynch of Wellington, who also ran for 4th CD.
