Billionaire Democratic donor tells Biden to step aside: ‘Vanity or virtue’

Billionaire Democratic megadonor Michael Moritz is demanding that President Joe Biden step down as the Democratic presidential nominee.

The move by the Silicon Valley venture capitalist is sure to further tighten the screws against Biden, as he faces a continuing avalanche of defecting Democratic congressmen and donors. In an email to the New York Times, Moritz said Biden has a choice: “Vanity or virtue.”

“He can either condemn the country to dark and cruel times or heed the voice of Father Time. The clock has run out,” he said.

Moritz, 69, threatened to withhold all his funding for Democrats if Biden is not removed, reflecting a significant concern for Democrats as other major donors have pledged to do the same.

“I would vote for Biden, but I would not give another penny to any fund-raising appeals from Democrats,” he said.

So far, Moritz has donated $7.8 million to pro-Biden and anti-Trump causes in the 2024 election cycle, according to the outlet.

Moritz joins the growing list of donors threatening to dry up the Democrats’ well of cash after former President Donald Trump raised more for the past several months.
