MILE HIGH UNITED WAY
Denver
News: Sheryl Lee Ralph, a star of television’s award-winning “Abbott Elementary,” will be the featured speaker at the 25th Women United Luncheon. This benefit for Mile High United Way takes place March 22 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.
Last year, Ralph won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as teacher Barbara Howard in ABC-TV’s popular comedy, “Abbott Elementary.” She was the first Black woman in 35 years to receive that award.
Over the course of her career, Ralph has also been nominated for several other roles, including a Tony Award for Best Actress in the original Broadway production of “Dreamgirls.”
Ralph also appears in the Giving Flowers Initiative, part of Disney Entertainment Television’s new Black History Month campaign, a 30-second spot that celebrates Black voices and stories and promotes Disney’s Black History Month television programming. Chandra Wilson, Glynn Turman, Emayatzy Corinealdi and Prentice Penny also are featured in the campaign.
In addition to Ralph’s address, the luncheon also will be the occasion to present the 2024 Frances Wisebart Jacobs Award to Lindsay Filsinger. Named for United Way’s co-founder, the award celebrates Filsinger’s community and philanthropic leadership.
In 2023, Filsinger, the director of Philanthropic Partners at Filsinger Energy Partners, testified before the state legislature in support of House Bill 23-1091 to renew the Colorado Childcare Contribution Tax Credit. She currently sits on the boards of the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and Escuela De Guadalupe and supports nonprofits that include Clayton Early Learning, Tennyson Center for Children and Denver Rescue Mission.
Tickets for the 11:30 a.m. luncheon are now on sale; sponsorships also are available. Information on both can be found on the Mile High United Way website.
About the organization: Founded in 1887 by Frances Wisebart Jacobs, a priest, two ministers and a rabbi, Mile High United way works with community partners in the seven-county metro Denver area to address human services-related needs.
