Singer and country music star Dolly Parton, who helped fund the development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, altered the words of her 1974 hit track “Jolene” to “vaccine” while waiting to receive her first shot.

“I even changed one of my songs to fit the occasion. It goes, ‘Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I’m begging of you please don’t hesitate,'” she sang in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

“That didn’t hurt. Just stung a little bit,” she said after receiving the shot.

The 75-year-old star has been a staunch supporter of the development of a coronavirus vaccine, donating $1 million toward research initiatives at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, last year. The university partially funded Moderna’s vaccine, which is 94.5% effective against the virus.

“I just felt so proud to have been part of that little seed money that will hopefully grow into something great and help to heal this world,” she said in November.

Recently, the music legend declined a Tennessee lawmaker’s proposal to build a statue honoring her at the state Capitol, saying she was honored but felt it was not “appropriate at this time.”

In her home state of Tennessee, over 775,693 people have become infected with the virus, with 11,421 deaths attributed to the virus since the outset of the pandemic, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Just over 7% of the state’s population has been vaccinated, with 1,435,667 doses administered and 498,245 people fully vaccinated.
