Boulder homeless initiatives receive over $500,000 in federal grants

Homeless Solutions for Boulder County and five of its nonprofit partners got $581,000 in federal grants to fund operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization announced Monday.

Awarded organizations include Boulder County Community Services, Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, Attention Homes, Bridge House and Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence.

The funds will go toward shelter operations, hazard pay, staffing, street outreach and housing support.

“(HSBC) is a system made up of Boulder County, municipal governments and nonprofit organizations that support ending homelessness,” said Robin Bohannan with HSBC and BCCS.

“We are extremely proud to have organized a coordinated effort in applying for not only grant funding, but in our plan in implementing these dollars where it matters.”

Each of the organizations applied for various grant funding through the CARES Act Emergency Solutions Grant.

HSBC alone was awarded over 50% of its requested amount plus an additional $22,400 of CARES funding from Boulder County commissioners.

HSBC used the money from Boulder County commissioners to purchase and distribute 400 prepaid phones to people experiencing homelessness so they can connect to essential services.
