President Donald Trump declares that America “is stronger today than ever before” in a television ad filmed at last week’s campaign rally in Colorado Springs that hits the state’s airwaves on Thursday.

The 2-minute ad, featuring footage of the speech Trump delivered at The Broadmoor World Arena on Feb. 20, will air on broadcast stations in the Denver and Colorado Springs markets as part of a six-figure ad buy, Colorado Politics has learned.

“Colorado was founded by pioneers and prospectors, cowboys and miners, who tamed the wilderness, explored the West and helped make this the greatest nation ever to exist on the face of the earth,” Trump says in the ad.

Colorado voters are returning mail ballots ahead of the state’s March 3 presidential primary. While the Democratic ballot is crowded with eight major candidates, Trump doesn’t face significant opposition in the Republican primary.

Trump joins several of his potential Democratic challengers on the air in Colorado.

Former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg has been pouring millions of dollars into TV advertising in the state for months, and this month ad campaigns have been launched by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, starts airing a TV ad in Colorado on Wednesday.

Trump spoke to an estimated 10,000 people inside the hockey arena on Feb. 20, with an equally large overflow crowd listening on speakers in the parking lot.

The ad includes news footage describing the subzero temperatures outside the rally as thousands of people line up to hear the president.

The Trump campaign’s national communications director told Colorado Politics that campaign officials believe Colorado “is very much in play” this year, despite Democrat Hillary Clinton carrying the state by about 5 percentage points in 2016.

“Colorado is moving in our direction,” Tim Murtaugh said in an interview. “We think there’s an independent, libertarian streak that runs through Colorado. We think the president’s record appeals too Colorado. All you have to do is look at the economy – not only nationwide but in Colorado, the unemployment rate is just staggering.”

Trump’s new ad highlights job growth in a list of accomplishments the president says are part of “the great American comeback.”

“While the extreme left has been wasting America’s time, we’ve been killing terrorists, creating jobs, raising wages, enacting fair trade deals, securing our border and lifting up citizens of every race, color, religion and creed,” Trump says in the ad.

Sarah Matthews, the Trump campaign’s deputy press secretary, said that the new ad lays out a “clear choice” for Colorado voters.

“President Trump promised to put America First, and he is doing just that by delivering historically low unemployment, higher wages, and a robust Colorado economy that has added more than 180,000 jobs since the 2016 election,” Matthews said in a statement to Colorado Politics.

“Coloradans are thriving under President Trump’s leadership. This November they will have a clear choice between President Trump’s record of success and the Democrats’ big government, socialist agenda.”
