Boulder County announces $3M in nonprofit awards
Boulder County on Tuesday announced the recipients of $3.3 million in grant funding to nonprofits as part of the “worthy cause” sales tax allocations.
“Each year, as we review the high caliber of requests for Worthy Cause funds, we’re reminded of the generosity of our residents who have voted four times in support of funding critical capital improvement projects that allow our nonprofit human services agencies to continue to provide essential services within our community,” said Boulder County Commissioner Deb Gardner in a statement.
In 2017, Boulder County voters approved a 0.05% sales tax extension, the money from which can be used toward “purchase of land or buildings, construction, renovation, or debt reduction,” according to the county.
There were $8.1 million in funding requests this year. The largest award, $500,000, will go to Boulder Shelter for the homeless to build 40-60 permanent affordable housing units.
Boulder Housing Partners will receive $400,000, also for the construction of affordable housing. In this case, 120 affordable units will be built at 2630 30th Street.
The YMCA of Boulder Valley and the YMCA of Boulder County will receive $150,000 and $271,000, respectively, for capital improvements to their facilities in Lafayette and Boulder.
