Aurora mayoral candidate Omar Montgomery picked up two key endorsements this week, his campaign said.

Montgomery, the head of the Aurora chapter of the NAACP and one of six candidates in the race, received the support of the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance and Colorado Black Women for Political Action.

“I am so proud to have the support of an organization so dear to my family and me,” he said in a statement. “I thank the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance for all they do to help our communities with compassion and faith. I share their mission for social justice and the eradication of racism.”

His campaign noted the high name recognition of others in the race, including former U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman and former City Council member Ryan Frazier. Coffman is a Republican; Frazier previously was with the GOP but is no longer affiliated with the party.

The organization, however, countered by pointing to the well-known leaders endorsing Montgomery: former Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, his wife and a former legislator Wilma Webb, former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords, U.S. Rep. Jason Crow of Aurora, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver, the Denver Area Labor Federation, SEIU Local 105, Conservation Colorado, Pipefitters Local Union 208, the Sierra Club, former U.S. Attorney John Walsh, and NARAL Pro-Choice.
