Nancy Pelosi to visit Colorado for affordable health care discussion

U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will come to Broomfield Wednesday for a discussion on affordable health care.

Pelosi, D-California, will be joined on a panel by U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Lafayette, and Colorado Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway.

The event will be held at the Omni Interlocken Hotel and will begin at 1:30p.m.

Pelosi has historically supported the Affordable Care Act as the best way forward for health care, noting that building upon that law might be preferable to the Medicare-For-All being touted by many 2020 presidential candidates.

“When most people say they’re for Medicare-for-all, I think they mean health care for all,” Pelosi told the Washington Post. “Let’s see what that means. A lot of people love having their employer-based insurance and the Affordable Care Act gave them better benefits.”

Neguse on Thursday commented on the ongoing health care debate at a  Colorado Chamber of Commerce luncheon with other lawmakers in Denver, noting his support for Gov. Jared Polis’ recently-approved reinsurance plan.

“Were gonna see prices go down,” he said. “I’m excited about forward movement on that front.” However, Neguse noted that “our work isn’t done.”
