AOC to headline Boulder County Democrats’ dinner
Progressive firebrand U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will be the featured speaker at the Boulder County Democratic Party’s Truman Dinner next month.
The event will be held Sept. 21 at the Glenn Miller Ballroom on the University of Colorado Boulder campus, the county party announced Saturday.
Ocasio-Cortez, a newcomer to elective office, upset Democratic Caucus Chair Joe Crowley last year in New York’s 14th Congressional District and went on to win election to Congress. A Democratic socialist, she has advocated Medicare for all, abolishing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, guaranteed employment and other far-left positions and at times has sparred with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over policy.
Ocasio-Cortez — often referred to as AOC — has championed the “Green New Deal” program bundling proposals to combat climate change and spur the economy, a program also backed by the freshman congressman representing Boulder County, Rep. Joe Neguse, D-Lafayette.
“Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is not only a great friend, but an amazing colleague, whose ability to speak truth to power has inspired millions of people across our country, including many here in Colorado,” Neguse said in Saturday’s announcement.
