Environment Colorado starts buzz over proposed bee law

Environment Colorado said Tuesday it’s ready to drop tens of thousands of petitions on state legislators in support of a new law to protect bees and other pollinators.

Colorado Politics told you in May that volunteers would be going door to door to make the case to outlaw certain pesticides.

Pollinators are in deep decline, experts say, endangering agriculture, as bees and other insects play a vital role in the reproductive process for more than 80% of flowering plants.

The Colorado petitions call for legislation around the issue in the next session, which begins in January.

A press event to make the announcement is scheduled Thursday morning at the Rosedale Community Garden in Denver.
