COPO PODCAST | Our interviews with the Denver City Council’s 5 new faces
Denver voters sent a wave of change toward the city council by electing five new members who represent the next generation of Denver leadership – and who emphasized city development policy as an issue in their campaigns.
They are five very different people from varied backgrounds: A lawyer. A social worker. A disability rights activist. An advocate for immigrants. A former chief of staff who will fill a seat once held by her former boss.
All of them were making their first run for political office.
Three of them defeated incumbents – an unusual feat in Denver elections. Two of those incumbents were close allies of Mayor Michael Hancock.
All of the newcomers tapped into frustration from voters who said they felt their voices were not being heard when it came to the future of their neighborhoods.
They are five of 13 council members. But when they are sworn in on July 15, they hope to have an impact on how the city is run.
Here are their stories and our podcast interviews with all five.
