Polis to sign bills on alcohol, justice and wages Tuesday
Gov. Jared Polis’ office on Saturday announced a flurry of post-Memorial Day bill signings to address criminal justice, social programs, jobs, wages and even an expansion of where one can drink alcohol at the National Western Center in Denver.
The latter bill basically says if you buy a drink at the National Western Stock Show or some other event, you can stroll away from the licensed premises to drink it. The bill is a bonus for the center that’s undergoing a billion-dollar face-lift and expansion to draw more events and people to Denver.
Polis’ busy day with 35 bills also includes restoring parolees’ voting rights, banning most criminal history questions on job and college applications, and limiting local governments’ cooperation with federal immigration authorities, as well as allowing local governments to set a minimum wage higher than the rest of the state.
