9News, Colorado Politics present Denver mayoral debate Wednesday

Should the mayor of Colorado’s largest city, who has served for eight years, get a final, four-year term?

Or should he be replaced at Denver’s helm, and if so, by whom?

Voters will decide in a mail election that ends May 7.

Wednesday, four of the candidates who are on the ballot in the election for Denver mayor will join moderators Kyle Clark and Marshall Zelinger for a live 9News-Colorado Politics debate at 7 p.m. on KTVD Channel 20.

CoPo Denver reporter John C. Ensslin will also be asking questions of the candidates.

The debate will stream live on ColoradoPolitics.com, 9News.com, the 9News app, Facebook and YouTube.

COMING SOON TO COLORADOPOLITICS.COM: John C. Ensslin’s profiles of Denver mayoral candidates, Monday-Friday, April 15-19.

Incumbent Michael Hancock will face three of his challengers in the debate:

  • Lisa Calderon, community advocate and co-chair of the Colorado Latino Forum.
  • Jamie Giellis, former president of the RiNo Art District and founder of the urban planning firm Centro.
  • Penfield Tate III, a former state lawmaker and son of Boulder’s first and only African American mayor.

They can be expected to face in-depth questions on their records and positions, including on major issues facing the city, such as homelessness, affordable housing, and law enforcement.
