The Pueblo Chieftain: An opportunity soon to pass
Timing, as the old saying goes, is everything.
So it would be unfortunate if a good idea went unexplored because it was introduced at a time when the people who needed to discuss it had their attention diverted elsewhere.
That might be what’s going to happen with the “community schools” concept recently presented by a group of school liaisons and the Pueblo Education Coalition at a meeting in the Frank I. Lamb Branch Library.
Under the group’s vision, community schools could offer more than classroom instruction and the types of extracurricular programs offered at many schools. In addition, these schools could serve as hubs for other types of activities, including social services, health care and other programming for the neighborhoods they serve.
