BLM hears concerns over planned oil and gas leasing in Western Colorado
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management has opened a new public comment period for land it plans to offer for oil and gas leasing in an upcoming sale.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports the agency said this week that it is planning to offer 26 parcels totaling more than 22 square miles in Mesa, Garfield, Rio Blanco, Jackson, Moffat, Fremont and Baca counties at its quarterly lease sale in March.
The bureau is accepting public comments on associated environmental documents through Dec. 14.
The proposal includes a group of six pieces of land that would be collectively offered as one lease parcel totaling 1.7 square miles in the Cameo area.
The agency already is hearing concerns related to proposed parcels in the Cameo and Mesa areas.
