The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: Reason wins out

Jared Polis’s win Tuesday makes him the nation’s first openly gay male governor.

Not that it was any kind of campaign issue, thankfully. It’s heartening to know that Colorado voters looked past such trivialities to consider the big picture – who had the better vision for Colorado?

Polis’s campaign priorities – 100 percent renewable energy in the state by 2040, full-day kindergarten and exploring some version of universal health care – obviously resonated with voters. But he got that message out by digging into his own pocket to the tune of $20 million.
