The race to replace Lucia Guzman of Denver in the state Senate is getting mighty competitive, as Milo Schwab made the Democratic primary ballot in the District 34 race Tuesday, the Secretary of State’s Office said.

Schwab covered the threshold of 1,000 valid petition signatures of registered voters in the district.

He is one of four Democrats going the petition route to reach the June 26 primary. Julie Gonzales has secured her spot on the ballot, while the Secretary of State’s Office is still verifying signatures turned in by Alan Kennedy-Schafer and Jonah Weiss.

Guzman is term-limited. She has endorsed Gonzales.

Schwab is a small business and civil rights attorney. He said in a statement Tuesday that he had personally knocked on more than 4,000 doors and walked more than 200 miles in the north-Denver district.

“I decided to run because for too long, our elected leaders have failed us through complacency,” he stated. “Too often our politics descends into partisan fighting instead of addressing the biggest concerns of our day: an education system that isn’t preparing the entrepreneurs and innovators of tomorrow, a healthcare system that bankrupts too many families and bleeds our businesses and economy dry and an energy system that pollutes our air and threatens our future.”
