Pueblo DA investigator arrested, faces several charges

DENVER – Court records show a former deputy chief investigator of the Pueblo District Attorney’s office has been charged with multiple crimes, including official misconduct, misuse of official information and professional gambling.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports Charles “Chuck” Widup was indicted and arrested on Jan. 29. Records show Widup was released on a $50,000 bond.

Records indicate the 69-year-old Widup has not yet entered a plea.

The Chieftain did not receive a response for comment from an attorney listed in court records as representing Widup.

District Attorney Jeff Chostner told The Chieftain on Wednesday he could not comment on the case because it involves an ongoing investigation and a personnel matter. He says Widup no longer works for him, but says he can’t not state the reason.

The alleged crimes occurred in 2016 and 2017.
