Ski Country USA adds muscle with addition of Silverton’s Kendall Mountain

A big player in the politics of outdoor recreation got a little bigger last week when Colorado Ski Country USA announced that Kendall Mountain Ski Area had joined the statewide trade association.

Kendall Mountain is owned and operated by the town of Silverton. It’s been in business for 53 years

“The Kendall Mountain community and the town of Silverton are excited to be joining Colorado Ski Country USA,” Malcolm MacDougall, the mountain’s operations manager, said in a statement. “Kendall offers a fun, laid-back family friendly environment for skiers and riders of all abilities within minutes of Silverton’s downtown.”

Billing itself as the “global voice of skiing and snowboarding in Colorado, the association already represented 23 resorts across the western half of the state.

Though a small park in the San Juans, Kendall Mountain in a valuable new member.

“Kendall Mountain’s family-oriented ski area is an exciting addition to Colorado Ski Country USA’s world-class ski resorts,” Melanie Mills, Colorado Ski Country USA’s president and CEO, stated.”Kendall does some of our industry’s most important work: getting kids and families into the sport and creating life-long participants in outdoor winter sports. We are delighted to welcome them to the Colorado Ski Country USA family.”

The mountain offers four groomed trails, multiple tree runs, 240 vertical feet, a terrain park and a double chairlift, as well as an ice skating rink, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

Colorado Ski Country USA keeps a close watch over legislation at that affect one of Colorado’s prime industries, including a driver of tourism and state’s brand.
