Greeley Tribune: More gridlock in our Legislature means more traffic on the roads

Oh, good, more gridlock.

That could describe the traffic that haunts most of urban Colorado – even Greeley feels it now during the nightly rush hour, especially on U.S. 34 – but it also, unfortunately, describes the state Legislature.

The Legislature, of course, remains one of our few options to help solve the traffic problem, but those in opposite parties seem to be more interested in yet another session of squabbling instead of solutions.

Republicans are pushing to get more transportation dollars out of the state’s $11.5 billion general fund. Democrats say more revenue is needed.

Last year’s $3.5 billion transportation measure couldn’t get out of the state Senate during a nonelection year. We therefore have little confidence something even close to that will make it this year now that the state elections loom.
