Elizabeth Peetz to lead Colorado Realtors’ political efforts

The 25,000-member Colorado Association of Realtors has a couple of new political players. Elizabeth Peetz has been named vice president of government affairs, and the association promoted Madeline Cain to be government affairs manager.
Peetz has worked as a lawyer for the association’s government affairs division since January of last year. She succeeds Ted Leighty, who was named CEO of the Colorado Association of Homebuilders.
Peetz is a licensed attorney in Colorado, Nebraska and Washington D.C. She will direct the associations efforts on public policy, as well as manage its government affairs division. Besides advocacy and legislative work, Peetz will oversee the Realtors’ Legislative Policy Committee, candidate endorsement process and its political action committee.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to maintain the momentum and success of our government affairs division through a seamless transition of leadership in Elizabeth and Madeline,” Tyrone Adams, chief executive of the Colorado Association of Realtors, said in a statement.
“Our members will continue to benefit from the breadth and depth of our relationships at the legislature and the tremendous policy work being done on behalf of those members and Colorado homeowners alike.”
Peetz has worked in legal analysis and government affairs more than 12 years, including as a public policy manager for Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.
She grew up in Greeley, and has an undergraduate degree in International Affairs from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a law degree from Creighton University. Early in her career, Peetz was a Washington, D.C., staffer for U.S. Rep. Scott McInnis, a Republican from Grand Junction.
“I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to work with our leadership team and our members to build upon CAR’s strong government affairs foundation,” Peetz said in a statement. “Our members are working on the frontlines to help enable the American dream of homeownership and we will focus our efforts on increasing the institutional capacity and bring new innovations to our existing programs as we enter a very important year of advocacy in 2018.”
Cain has been the association’s government affairs coordinator since 2014. In her new job, she will research and develop public policy. Cain has background in political fundraising and will work with the state Realtors’ PAC, as well as help with its Legislative Policy Committee and candidate endorsements.
She previously worked in in Kentucky with constituent services for Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. She has a degree is business administration from the University of Mary Washington.
