The Pueblo Chieftain: Stations 5 and 6: Caution

The Pueblo City Council has delayed a vote on making old power Stations 5 and 6 a landmark several times – and for good reason. We’re talking about private property, owned by Black Hills Energy, a company that balks at relinquishing control of its own land and building.

The issue is back on the City Council’s agenda Monday night. This time, local developer Ryan McWilliams and veteran Denver developer Dana Crawford have requested time during council’s 5:30 p.m. work session to unveil a proposal for a 112-room hotel, restaurant and retail shops on the Black Hills property adjacent to the Downtown Riverwalk.

City officials and many Pueblo residents have been waiting for someone to come forward with a legitimate offer to redevelop the site that might rescue the brick-facade Stations 5 and 6 building from the wrecking ball. It will be interesting to see how they react to the McWilliams-Crawford plan Monday night.
