The Pueblo Chieftain: Vote ‘yes’ on issue 2C

Pueblo residents aren’t happy with the condition of local roads. You made that clear last year in a citizen satisfaction survey conducted by a Kansas-based firm on the city’s behalf. Improvements to roads and police services ranked highest among the priorities of the survey’s respondents.

So, one year later, the question is: What to do about it? We believe the answer, or at least part of it, is to support local ballot issue 2C, which would establish an enterprise fund for street repairs.

Money needed to pay for these repairs would come from a surcharge added to water bills sent to local residents and businesses. City officials have said the residential fee would be only $1 per month. The fee for businesses hasn’t been finalized, but it will be based on a formula that takes into account the acreage and traffic generated by those businesses.
