One of the state’s more politically engaged unions weighed in this week in the 6th Congressional District Democratic primary as Pipefitters Local 208 announced it’s endorsing Democrat Jason Crow for the seat held by U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, an Aurora Republican.

“Jason Crow knows what it’s like to do an honest days work for an honest day’s pay and has spent his life dedicated to serving our community and our country,” the union said in an endorsement announced Monday. “He worked minimum wage jobs at a young age and then worked in construction to help pay for college.

“We know Jason will be the best person to represent the working families of the 6th Congressional District because he grew up with callouses on his hands. And that’s the type of representative we need – not a career politician like Mike Coffman. We are honored to endorse his campaign and look forward to joining in his fight to bring leadership back to CO-6 and move our country forward.”

Crow, an attorney and decorated Army veteran, is one of three Democrats running in the battleground district. The others are former Obama administration official and clean-energy expert Levi Tillemann and attorney and one-time Cherry Creek School District board candidate David Aarestad.

Earlier this year, the 1,700-member union endorsed Joe Neguse in the 2nd Congressional District primary – he’s one of four Democrats vying for the chance to succeed U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, a candidate for governor – and threw its support behind U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter for governor, a couple months before the Arvada Democrat withdrew from that race and later declared he was seeking a seventh term in Congress.
