Colorado oil and gas companies give $10 million to Hurricane Harvey relief
Oil and natural gas companies that do business in Colorado are investing in a lot more then drilling, pumping, support services and politics. Members of the Colorado Oil & Gas Association have donated about $10 million, and climbing, to the American Red Cross for relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
“Houston, in many ways, is the heart of this country’s oil and gas industry, so the response to this disaster from our members has been overwhelming,” Dan Haley, COGA’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “Americans from all walks of life are stepping up to help Gulf Coast communities rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and volunteers within oil and gas companies also are cooking food, providing temporary housing, and raising money to support the Red Cross and other relief efforts – many while worried about their own impacted homes and lives.”
That 10-large figure doesn’t include company matches to employees’ individual contributions, according to COGA.
“It takes an entire community to respond to those devastated by a disaster of the magnitude of Hurricane Harvey,” Gino Greco, CEO of the American Red Cross of Colorado and Wyoming, said in a statement released by COGA. “We are grateful for the support of the Colorado energy community, including the Colorado Oil & Gas Association and its members to bring hope to those in need.”
Haley said that the historic floods Colorado weathered in 2013 left Front Range communities and individuals devastated, but that time of need was met with an outpouring of support, which he called remarkable and inspiring.
“When we can, we need to pay it forward, which is what so many of our members have done,” Haley said.

“Whether it’s to support the American Red Cross, or other nonprofits working to rebuild and support the families impacted by Hurricane Harvey, we hope Coloradans contribute what they can,” Haley said. “In a time of serious political and social divide, it is important to remember what matters most and do what we can to help those in need.”
