Tickets are on sale to the main social event for the state’s environmentally conscience activists, Conservation Colorado’s annual Rebel with a Cause Gala.

The dinner and drinks are May 24 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Denver. This year’s honored rebel is LaDonna Brave Bull Allard of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe that led protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

“We’re honored to recognize her work to preserve her tribe’s rich history and to protect clean water in the face of insurmountable odds,” Conservation Colorado said.

Allard is her tribe’s historian and the founder of the Sacred Stone Campon her private propertyduring the pipeline protests.

“If we allow an oil company to dig through and destroy our histories, our ancestors, our hearts and souls as a people, is that not genocide?” she said in a Yes! Magazine article in September.

State Rep. Diane Mitsch Bush of Steamboat Springs will be lauded as the legislator of the year.
