The Greeley Tribune editorial: Longer walk distances a sad but necessary fact for District 6 without a mill levy override

We know District 6’s new proposed bus routes will cause some hardship for parents and students.

Too bad.

By adjusting those routes, the district essentially is doing away with its bus transportation except in hardship cases. At least that’s the way many students and parents will feel. Elementary school students will now have to walk up to 1.5 miles under the new plan. Middle school students will have to walk two miles, and the boundaries for high school students will increase up to three miles.

We understand those distances will essentially snag more steps for students than adults who wear Fitbits. High school students could potentially do close to a 5K one-way to school. We also know it gets cold in the winter here.
