The Pueblo Chieftain editorial: School of Nursing
Colorado State University-Pueblo has good reason to celebrate the university’s newly designated School of Nursing. Changing the status from a department to a school is a strong signal that CSU-Pueblo intends to be a leader in meeting the growing demand for more trained nurses both locally and across the nation.
President Lesley Di Mare said the new status will enhance not only the nursing program but the image and academic reputation of the university, as well.
“The nursing school will be housed within the College of Education, Engineering and Professional Studies in order to bring additional visibility to more than five decades of service to health care in the region,” she said.
Di Mare said the nursing program has become an integral part of the Pueblo community, having conferred more than 2,500 bachelor’s degrees and 150 master’s degrees since 1964. In fact, CSU-Pueblo’s first doctoral program will be offered by the School of Nursing.
