Peyton Manning isn’t really retired; he’s suiting up for Team Trump
This one already has made the rounds in the Twittersphere, but for obvious reasons, we couldn’t resist getting in on the action. Politico informs us by way of The Gazette in Colorado Springs that former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is scheduled to join speakers including the new president and vice president at a Republican retreat in Philadelphia next week to map out the GOP agenda. And quarterbacks do know strategy (or are supposed to).
As The Gazette reports:
Manning is no stranger to Republican causes, even though he initially backed a candidate not named Donald Trump. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush outed him as a donor to his presidential campaign a year ago, telling a crowd that he rooted for Manning’s Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50 “because Peyton Manning wrote me a check.” Manning and Donald Trump Jr. ran into each other on the campaign trail last summer in Mississippi and there seemed to be no hard feelings about the past.
Manning in fact has been playing for the red team for some time, according to the report:
In the past, Manning has donated to several Republican politicians, most of whom were candidates in Tennessee – where Manning starred in college.
Moving from Team Red to Team Trump has proven a tough transition for a number of GOP luminaries during the past year. Looks like Manning pulled it off without even breaking a sweat.
