Sanders to hold campaign rally in Denver this weekend
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will speak at a rally for supporters Saturday afternoon at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, his campaign announced Thursday morning.
Sanders and his rival for the nomination, Hillary Clinton, are both speaking at the Colorado Democrats’ annual fundraising dinner Saturday night a few blocks away from the rally, at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.
Sanders plans to talk at the rally about getting money out of politics, fighting climate change and making college affordable, his campaign said. They’re calling it a “Future to Believe in Rally.”
The Vermont senator has drawn massive crowds at rallies at the University of Denver and in Boulder since last summer. He won the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night, running 22 points ahead of Clinton, after she barely edged him for a win a week earlier in the Iowa caucuses.
Colorado Democrats hold caucuses March 1, beginning the state’s delegate selection process. Both the Clinton and Sanders campaigns are organizing supporters statewide and have said they plan to win the state.
Chelsea Clinton will be campaigning in Colorado next week, with stops planned in Boulder Feb. 18 and in Denver Feb. 19, her campaign announced. Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Clinton supporter, is scheduled to speak to Clinton volunteers Thursday afternoon in Greenwood Village.
The Sanders rally Saturday doesn’t require tickets, but the campaign is urging volunteers to RSVP through its website. Because of heavy security, the campaign says not to bring items other than cell phones and keys, and to leave signs and banners at home.
