Letter: Have a happy 100th birthday, Rocky Mountain National Park!
Editor:
Coloradans will mark 100 years of Rocky Mountain National Park withcake, music, and family activities on Sept. 4. Moms and kidsfrom Colorado Moms Know Best will attend the park’s centennialbirthday party to deliver a giant birthday card with children’slandscape drawings and a message to “protect our clean air andbeautiful vistas” to elected officials and park leaders.A recent National Parks Conservation Association study found thatRocky Mountain National Park — the crown jewel of Colorado’s nationalparks — is plagued by air pollution, earning a troubling “D” grade inair quality. When Colorado moms and dads take our children to themountains to hike and fish, we assume that the air is clean andhealthy. But that’s not necessarily the case and it’s important thatwe all dedicate ourselves to making sure that we protect the greatoutdoors that makes Colorado special. One way we can do that is tosupport the Clean Power Plan to clean up air pollution from powerplants and promote clean, renewable energy.
So happy birthday, Rocky Mountain National Park! All of us at ColoradoMoms Know Best look forward to celebrating your 100th year andprotecting you for the next 100 years, too!
