Gov. Jared Polis and the Colorado Energy Office announced Thursday the return of the state’s popular e-bike rebate program, with registration set to open later this month.

The office plans to provide point-of-sale rebates totaling $3 million from the Community Access Enterprise to more than 2,800 eligible Coloradans over the next year, according to a news release. The initial program ran from summer 2023 until funding was exhausted in spring 2025 and helped nearly 8,000 Coloradans save more than $9.75 million on e-bike purchases.

More than 34,000 Coloradans applied during the first run of the initiative and 7,985 received a rebate — about 76% did not — according to the Colorado Energy Office.

“E-bikes are fun, convenient, reduce traffic congestion and help Colorado meet our bold clean air and climate goals. I am excited to build on our momentum from a successful initial round of e-bike rebates to offer more savings to Coloradans choosing to purchase an e-bike,” said Polis in the release.

Of those who received a rebate, 89% said they would not have bought an e-bike without one, according to the office.

“Our initial e-bike rebate program was a great success, having a real impact on people’s lives,” said Will Toor, executive director of the Colorado Energy Office, in the release. “As demand continues to soar, we are excited to bring back this popular program with ongoing funding so that more Coloradans can enjoy the many benefits e-bikes offer.”

Rebates will be available to Colorado residents with household income at or below 80% of the area median income in the county where they live. The standard rebate is $1,000, with an additional $300 for e-cargo bikes and $300 for adaptive e-bikes.

Registration will open on a quarterly basis over the next year. Each round will last one week. The first opens at 11 a.m. Aug. 24 and closes at noon Aug. 31. A link to the registration portal will appear on the E-Bike Rebate webpage once it opens.

Registrants initially submit only name and contact information. After the period closes, the office will randomly select recipients and notify them by email. Selected applicants then have one week to submit proof of income and address.

Recipients must buy a qualifying e-bike in person or by phone from a participating retailer. Details on qualifying e-bikes are on the program webpage.

Residents of cities or counties with local e-bike rebate programs, such as Denver, may apply for the statewide rebate but cannot combine it with local incentives on the same purchase.
