Denver City Council to consider spending $12M on airport fire protection

Members of Denver’s City Council will consider several big-ticket resolutions and zoning ordinances Monday afternoon.

Items of interest include a $67,500 payment settling a liability claim involving the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment. City documents cite an incident that occurred on April 10, 2025, at or near the intersection of North Gilpin Street and East 1st Avenue in Denver.

Next, Resolution 26-0216 would approve a $12.2 million purchase for Denver Fire Department Operations at Denver International Airport, including a patrol unit, a ladder truck, and three Oshkosh Stryker vehicles.

The patrol unit and the Stryker units, according to the filed resolution request, are “replacing aging assets” and maintenance costs have pushed them to the end of their useful life.

The ladder truck would be a new addition to the fleet.

Two proclamations are scheduled to be issued. The first will honor the service of Denver Crime Lab Director Greggory LaBerge. The second will recognize Soka Gakkai International – USA (SGI-USA) Youth and Community Dialogue for Peace, Culture, and Education.

Council Bill 26-0208, a bill for an ordinance changing the zoning classification for multiple properties in Bear Valley, College View-South Platte, Harvey Park, Harvey Park South, and Marston, will be introduced.

If ordered published by the council, a public hearing on the matter will be held on April 13.

One required public hearing will be held during the 5:30 p.m. session regarding a bill to amend the zoning classification for 385 S. Zuni St. in the Athmar Park neighborhood.

Denver City Council meetings continue to be held in the Parr-Widener Community Room as renovations in the council chambers progress.

Seating is limited, and the room will fill quickly.

The Denver City Council’s regular meeting begins at 3:30 p.m., with the general public comment session scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
