Candidates throughout Jefferson County have ramped up their spending and fundraising, as they headed into the final stretch of this year’s elections.

Lakewood: 5 council seats

There are five Lakewood City Council seats up for election on Nov. 4, including one in each of the five wards.

Liz Black, who is running for the Ward 2 seat, has raised the most money with around $14,576, according to the city’s website.

Jeslin Shahrezaei, who is an incumbent running for reelection in Ward 1, came in next.

Shahrezaei secured more than $11,310 in campaign contributions. Two of her biggest contributions come from the Metro Housing Coalition — the political arm of the Home Builders Association (HBA) — for $400 and the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices Pipefitters Local Union No. 208 for $300.

Ken Cruz, the incumbent running for reelection in Ward 3, came in at third with $4,070 in contributions and $3,200 in independent expenditures.

Golden: 4 council seats

There are four Golden City Council seats up for election this November, including one in each of the city’s four wards.

Sandra Knecht, who is running for the Ward 4 seat, reported raising the most with over $2,954. She gave herself $2,500.

Dan Sung, who is running for the Ward 2 seat, spent over $2,418. Sung gave his campaign $3,500; he raised nearly $5,000.

Sung’s opponent in Ward 2, Gerchard Pfau, spent more than $1,704. Pfau gave his campaign $900; he raised $1,997.

Danielle Varda — a Democrat running for Colorado House District 27 — and Rep. Sheila Lieder both contributed to his campaign. Varda gave $50; Lieder, $355.

Jeffco Public Schools: 3 board seats

Jeffco Public Schools has three open seats: Districts 1, 2 and 5.

Tina Moeinian, who is running for District 5, received the most with over $13,433. Moeinian’s contributors included the unions Jefferson County Education Association ($9,000) and the Denver Classroom Teachers Association ($4,000).

Peter Gibbins, who is running for District 2, received the same contributions from the two unions. He raised a total of $12,741.

Both Moeinian and Gibbins were endorsed by Jefferson County Education Association and benefitted from $24,990 in independent expenditures from the Public Education Committee.

Michael Yoccum, who is running in District 1, came in third with over $12,432 in total contributions, of which $4,000 came from Denver Classroom Teachers Association.
