RTD to offer free rides during Election Day, National Vote Early Day

Those heading around the city to vote on Election Day can leave their transit fare in their wallets.

All Regional Transportation District fares — including buses and light rail trains — will be free on both Election Day, Nov. 5, and National Vote Early Day, Oct. 29, according to a news release from the agency.

RTD’s Board of Directors decided the “Zero Fare to Vote” days be permanently placed on the district’s calendar.

“Providing RTD customers with systemwide zero fare transit to access polling places was well received when introduced in 2022,” General Manager and CEO Debra Johnson said in the release. “This year and in subsequent general election years, registered voters can rely on RTD to deliver them to any polling place throughout the district to exercise their constitutional right to vote.”

National Vote Early Day, a nonpartisan celebration, allows all voters to cast their ballots early, potentially circumventing any scheduling obstacles on the official Election Day.

Election Day, held on Nov. 5, will allow people to vote in-person at local voting centers or drop off their ballots at drop boxes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Colorado voters can find their nearest ballot drop box or voting center by visiting GoVoteColorado.gov. They can also use RTD’s trip planner and click the “Vote” icon to find the best route to a designated drop box or polling location.
