Bernie Sanders tries to pull Harris back to the Left with poll in key states

Vice President Kamala Harris has been abandoning her left-wing policies, but Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) thinks embracing those liberal ideas will actually help her win more votes.

While he has yet to endorse Harris, Sanders has been working to help drum up support for the vice president. He commissioned a poll in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, where he found that the majority of the 1,150 voters polled supported implementing left-wing ideas such as raising the minimum wage, raising taxes on the wealthy and corporations, Medicare for All, and making public colleges tuition free.

The student loan debt crisis has become a top priority for the Biden-Harris administration, with about 1 in 10 student loan holders experiencing some level of debt relief. Sanders’s poll found that 59% supported making public college free.

When it comes to Medicare for All, 63% of voters supported it, and 70% of voters said the minimum wage should be raised to $17 an hour.

Sanders said in an interview with Punchbowl News that these “radical progressive ideas” aren’t anything new.

The poll revealed that the top priorities for voters this election are the economy, jobs, and inflation. Fifty-five percent of voters said inflation is the most important issue affecting the economy. While Biden’s policies have improved the reduction of the inflation rate, consumers are still seeing high grocery bills and struggling to keep up with the cost of living.

According to Sanders, Harris should run her campaign on appealing to “economic issues of concern to the working class of this country.”

“That’s the main thrust of the poll,” Sanders said.

Sanders’s poll also found that Harris and former president Donald Trump are currently tied at 49% in a head-to-head race.
