Karine Jean-Pierre says Biden will speak ‘directly’ in first speech since leaving 2024 race

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Tuesday that President Joe Biden will speak “directly” to voters in his Wednesday night speech.

Biden’s address, scheduled for Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET, will mark his first speech since he announced via a statement on social media that he would bow out of the 2024 presidential race. Jean-Pierre contended that Biden would fulfill his full term as president and that he would return to the White House on Tuesday.

“He’s going to be giving an address tomorrow at 8 o’clock. Please watch,” Jean-Pierre said on ABC’s The View. “He wants to talk directly to all of you, to the American people, to talk about what’s next.”

Jean-Pierre then said that there was “no spin” with Biden’s decision to opt out of his reelection bid and that he believed Vice President Kamala Harris was “the right person” to take up his campaign.

Biden’s statement revealing he would not continue his 2024 reelection campaign was made a few days after he was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Wednesday, and he has been recovering at his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He revealed Tuesday morning that he would address the nation to detail “how I will finish the job.”

On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump said he could not believe Biden is being made out to be “a hero and said that the Democratic Party had pushed Biden “out of power like a dog.”
