‘White powder’ spill briefly shuts down Denver police headquarters Monday

The Denver Police Department on Monday briefly shut down the area around police headquarters due to a “unknown white powder” spilling inside the station’s evidence room, according to police.

A DPD spokesperson said Tuesday the powder initially tested positive for the presence of cocaine, but a Denver Crime Lab test revealed the powder wasn’t a controlled substance.

No illnesses or injuries were reported, according to police.

By protocol, the police station went into hazmat mode and briefly shut down the roads near 14th and Cherokee streets, according to a DPD social media post on X around 7 p.m..

DPD called Denver Fire Hazmat to take care of the situation, which has since been resolved, police said.
