GOP groups set debates for Republican primaries in Colorado’s 4th and 8th congressional districts

Nearly a dozen Republicans running in two of Colorado’s most hotly contested GOP primaries are scheduled to appear at a pair of candidate debates in Fort Lupton next month, the Republican Women of Weld announced on Friday.
The evening of debates is expected to feature every GOP candidate running to replace retiring Republican U.S. Rep. Ken Buck in the 4th Congressional District, as well as the declared candidates hoping to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Yadira Caraveo in the 8th Congressional District.
The program is set for 5-9 p.m. on Jan. 25, 2024, at the Fort Lupton Recreation Center, with the first debate starting at 6 p.m.
At press time, all candidates who have filed to run in both primaries had confirmed they’ll attend.
In the 4th CD, that includes U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, talk radio host Deborah Flora, former state Sen. Ted Harvey, state Rep. Richard Holtorf, Weld County Council member Trent Leisy, activist Justin Schreiber, Logan County Commissioner Jerry Sonnenberg and former GOP congressional nominee Peter Yu.
In the less crowded 8th CD primary, the candidates are insurance agent Joe Andujo, Weld County Commissioner Scott James and state Rep. Gabe Evans.
The debates’ moderators are talk radio host and former district attorney George Brauchler, political strategist and 9News commentator Kelly Maher, Colorado Politics reporter Ernest Luning and Colorado Sun reporter Jesse Paul.
Tickets are going fast, the group’s vice president, Tammy Klein, told Colorado Politics. The $40 tickets, including a barbecue buffet, must be purchased in advance here.
Hosted by the venerable GOP women’s group and the Lincoln Club of Colorado, the event’s sponsors include Wells Ranch and 4x Industrial.
Precinct caucuses take place during the first week of March. The primary election is June 25, 2024.
