COORS WESTERN ART EXHIBIT & SALE
Denver
News: The late Ann Scarlett Daley, the first curator of the Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale, is the recipient of the 2024 Mary Belle Grant Award, an honor given to an individual whose passion for the American West is exemplified through art.
This is the first time the award has been given posthumously. Her family will accept it on Jan. 2 at the show’s Blue Jean Preview.
Daley was 88 when she succumbed to cancer in April.
A native of Havre, MT, Daley was valedictorian of her high school graduating class in Rawlins, WY, and was student body president at the former Colorado Women’s College before transferring to the University of Wyoming, from which she graduated cum laude in 1958. She went on to receive a master’s degree in art history from the University of Denver.
In addition to being curator of the Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale, Daley’s art career included curatorial positions with the Foxley Collection of Western Art, the Petrie Institute of Western Art and the Denver Art Museum. She also helped philanthropists Jan and Frederick Mayer build their collections of Spanish colonial and European art.
The Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale is a benefit for the National Western Scholarship Trust and is open to the public during the run of the 2024 National Western Stock Show, Jan. 6-21. Another preview, the by-invitation Red Carpet Reception, will be held on Jan. 3.
About the organization: The Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale is one of the highest-regarded events of its type in the nation and is one of the largest fundraisers for the National Western Scholarship Trust. The 2024 edition features the works of 73 contemporary realists from across North America who capture the Western way of life. The National Western Scholarship Trust was formed in 1983 to provide 120 scholarships annually, ranging in size from $2,500 to $15,000, to those studying agriculture, rural medicine and veterinary sciences at institutes of higher learning in Colorado and Wyoming.
