President Joe Biden plans to visit Pueblo, hold Denver fundraiser on rescheduled Colorado trip

President Joe Biden plans to appear in Pueblo on Nov. 29, rescheduling a trip the White House canceled a month ago amid the mounting conflict in the Middle East, Colorado Politics has learned.

Biden is again expected to pitch his administration’s economic accomplishments at Pueblo’s CS Wind factory, the largest wind turbine tower manufacturing plant in the world, which is in Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert’s district.

The rescheduled presidential visit is also expected to include a fundraiser in the Denver area on Nov. 28 featuring Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, according to an invitation to the event reviewed by Colorado Politics.

Just hours before Air Force One was scheduled to depart for Colorado on Oct. 16, the White House said that the trip would be postponed so the president could participate in national security meetings as the war between Israel and Hamas entered its second week.

The White House billed the October visit as part of Biden’s “Investing in America” tour, with the president highlighting how the Inflation Reduction Act and other elements of his economic agenda are “mobilizing companies to invest in clean energy industries and create good-paying jobs in places like CO-03, while extreme House Republicans try to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act and deny their constituents the jobs and opportunities that the President’s agenda is creating.”

Ahead of last month’s planned trip, the White House noted that Boebert, who is seeking reelection to a third term, called the administration’s signature infrastructure package “garbage” and said the legislation “needs to be repealed.”

CS Wind credited the Inflation Reduction Act when the company broke ground earlier this year on an expansion it says will double manufacturing capacity, with an anticipated 850 additional jobs at the plant by 2026.

“The Biden-Harris Administration will continue to deliver for workers and families in Colorado’s Third District and across the country – even if extreme Congressional Republicans put politics ahead of jobs and opportunities created by Bidenomics,” the White House said in October, before Biden’s Colorado visit was postponed.

In August, Biden mentioned CS Wind during a speech touting clean energy investments stemming from the legislation at a wind tower plant in Albuquerque.

Pointing out that the CS Wind plant is located in Boebert’s congressional district, Biden wisecracked that “the very quiet Republican lady” voted against the legislation, “along with every other Republican.”

Boebert fired back at Biden’s facetious characterization on social media.

“Wishful thinking, Joe,” Boebert responded. “I’m calling you out every single day and I won’t be getting more quiet about it anytime soon!”

The November visit is slated to be Biden’s second trip to Colorado this year, after he delivered the commencement address at the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs on June 1.

Last year, Biden spoke at Camp Hale in Eagle County on Oct. 12, 2022, to designate a national monument. He also met with families affected by the Marshall fire during a Jan. 7, 2022, stop in Louisville.

Biden talked about clean energy jobs during a visit to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory outside Arvada on Sept. 14, 2021.
