Second gentleman to tour NREL ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris Colorado visit

Second gentleman Douglas Emhoff will visit the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on Monday ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Colorado. The trip will highlight the Biden/Harris administration’s ongoing commitment to clean energy, according to a release.

During his visit, Emhoff will tour the lab, speak with employees and university students and observe a student robotics demonstration. Emhoff will also highlight the administration’s ongoing commitment to women in science, technology, engineering and math.

The Inflation Reduction Act, drafted after the Build Back Better Act was killed in the Senate, will invest $370 billion in the fight against climate change, according to a White House guidebook. The Biden administration says the act will create good paying jobs, invest in American manufacturing and make changes to the tax code, without raising taxes for families making under $400,000.

Additionally, the act provides tax credits of up to 30% for families making energy efficient updates to their homes, including solar panels, changing insulation or windows and replacing a furnace. More information can be found at the White House’s website: bit.ly/3JeI69t.

During her visit, Harris will participate in a moderated conversation focused on investments made for fighting climate change, according to Gazette media partner 9News.

The White House has not released an itinerary for Harris or Emhoff’s visits as of 1 p.m. Sunday.
