CPW Commission approves $3.5 million in grants for recreational trails

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission unanimously approved over $3.5 million in grant funding for recreational trails during its Thursday meeting.

A total of 20 grants were awarded for 2021 through the Non-Motorized Trail Grant Program, a partnership with Great Outdoors Colorado, Colorado Lottery, Federal Recreational Trails Program and Federal Land and Water Conservation.

“These trail projects will connect Coloradans to the outdoors with new and improved trails and provide more places for everyone to get outside,” said Trails Program Manager Fletcher Jacobs.

The Non-Motorized Trail Grant Program provides funding for trail planning, construction and maintenance projects.

Grant awardees include the following:

  • North Mt. Elbert Trail: $245,000 for maintenance 
  • Mesa County Trail: $114,500 for maintenance 
  • Elk Creek: $55,810 for maintenance 
  • Daniel’s Pass: $250,000 for construction 
  • Overland Mountain Bike Association Trail Agent Project: $44,425 for maintenance
  • Heron Pond-Carpio-Sanguinette Park: $750,000 for construction 
  • Naturita Town Park Perimeter Traill: $320,760 for construction
