Denver Public Arts searching for artist(s) to work on project at new Montebello police station

The City of Denver’s Public Art Program is searching for an artist or team of artists to design and produce an original public artwork at the newly renovated Denver District 5 Police Substation and new 9-1-1 Call Center in the Montbello neighborhood.
A selection panel that is responsible for overseeing each application has chosen the exterior entry plaza as the space that will be used for the project.
Panelists are encouraging potential applicants to showcase cultural diversity, local history and community representation that will create an inclusive, accessible and welcoming space in each design application.
The revitalized police station has been deemed “the People’s Station” and panelists want the artwork to represent through diverse media including sculptures, lighting, sound and mosaic.
Approximately $250,000 has been budgeted for the project through the City of Denver’s 1% for Public Art Ordinance resulting from improvements made to the Denver District 5 station and new call center, according to the release.
Applications to artists across the country are open online at CallForEntry.org through April 12, and anyone with any questions are encouraged to go to www.DenverPublicArt.org/For-Artists.
