DPS Board Director Tay Anderson in recovery after collapsing from chest pain
Denver Public Schools Board Director Tay Anderson collapsed from severe chest pain Monday while shopping with his family in Target, Anderson’s family announced.
In a statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday, Anderson said he is OK and “on the road to healing.”
“I am feeling better and will be resting today with my family,” the statement reads. “I want to take the time to highlight the importance of maintaining your mental, physical and emotional health.

“While it’s been my greatest honor to fight alongside the families and communities of Denver as we’ve navigated through this pandemic, in that work it can be easy to neglect your own self-care. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way the consequences of that neglect.”
The statement also thanks the frontline workers that assisted Anderson and his family during the medical emergency and thanks those who have reached out with well wishes.

The cause of the collapse has not yet been released. Anderson’s family said he was undergoing testing Monday evening.
Anderson was elected to the DPS school board in 2019 at only 21 years old.
Recently, Anderson has made headlines for leading numerous racial justice protests in Denver and advocating for diversity in Denver’s curriculum.
