CPW launches new podcast to educate Coloradans, tourists

In an attempt to educate Coloradans and those who travel to the state and enjoy the outdoors, Colorado Parks and Wildlife launched a podcast aimed to do just that.

“Colorado Outdoors” officially launched on Monday as host Mark Johnson sat down with CPW’s Director, Dan Prenzlow to discuss a plethora of topics, including conservation, fishing and hunting licenses, bears and hunting.

Although the inaugural episode covered a wide variety of topics, Jason Clay, a public information officer for the northeast region of CPW, said most episodes will focus on a specific thing.

“Most of the episodes will feature a central idea or aspect that our agency touches on, whether that’s wildlife, state parks, trails, outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing, camping, whatever that may be,” Clay said.

“We’re releasing an episode that’ll probably come out next week that’ll discuss the wildfire impacts on wildlife, aquatic life and our forests.”

Currently, the CPW plans to release a new episode bi-weekly, but at the start, there could be an abundance of episodes released, Clay said.

The idea of a podcast has been floating around CPW’s office for quite awhile, but getting to the point of recording and putting it out took some time.

Officials are excited about the possible reach this could have.

“It took a little bit of time for (the podcast) to come to fruition, but it’s definitely a great tool, and a new avenue that we can use to reach our audience,’ Clay said.

The podcast is available on nearly all digital service provider including Apple Podcasts, iHeart Media, Pandora and Spotfiy.

On Wednesday, a new episode will be launched as the team will be examining the new Fishers Peak State Park, which officially opens to the public on Oct. 30.
