Elizabeth Warren receives endorsements from two Denver councilwomen

Denver City Councilwomen Jamie Torres and Robin Kniech have endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren.

Torres on Feb. 23 announced her support for the Massachusetts senator on Twitter. The councilwoman said that she wants to see Warren “fully implement her plans” on immigration, student loan debt, affordable housing and health care.

“I’m endorsing Elizabeth Warren for President because she brings tenacity, intelligence and pragmatism to the very real debates and issues facing our democracy and our country,” Torres said in a statement. “I trust Elizabeth to listen to traditionally marginalized voices and to fight for a brighter economic future for all Americans.”

Kniech, the city council’s first out LGBTQ member, attended Warren’s rally on Saturday in Denver.

The councilwoman on Jan. 27 announced her support for the senator on Twitter, touting Warren for her “record of leadership to get things done” and her affordable housing plan that incorporates “racial inclusivity.”

Warren picked up more than a dozen endorsements from past and present elected officials in Colorado the day before her Denver rally, including state Sen. Tammy Story, state Reps. Dafna Michaelson Jenet and Susan Lontine, and former Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald, the first woman to lead the state legislature’s upper chamber.
