Court discloses ‘much more rapid’ recovery than expected from autoimmune disorder
Former Sen. Lois Court, D-Denver, has announced that she has left rehabilitation and has returned home, months after receiving a diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome.
“I came home on Valentine’s Day,” Court wrote in an e-mail to supporters on Sunday. “I have never understood better the saying, ‘There’s no place like home!'”
Court resigned on Jan. 16, citing the rare immune disorder with no known cure that attacks the body’s nervous system. A Democratic vacancy committee selected then-Rep. Chris Hansen to succeed her.
In her e-mail, Court disclosed that she is able to walk, and that her recovery is “much more rapid” than expected. However, she estimated that it will be several more months until she is “totally well.”
Court will appeal at Four Mile Historic Park on Feb. 29 for a town hall meeting with Hansen and Lt. Gov. Dianne Primavera. The meeting will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. and Hansen wrote on the event’s Facebook page that Court will be recognized there for her legislative service.
